"Barack Obama" Rules in National Ranking Revealing Most Popular Internet Keywords Entered by K-12 Students
netTrekker d.i.'s Quarterly "Top 15 In-School Search Index" Provides Real-Time Ranking of Terms Our Kids Are Searching for Most
Cincinnati, OH, December 16, 2008 – If Internet search engines
were an indicator of the outcome of a presidential election—and
if kids could vote—Barack Obama would have won 2-1. This
fall, K-12 students around the country entered “Barack Obama” into
their school’s Internet search engines just behind more typical
kid-oriented terms, “Dogs” and “Games” and well
ahead of “John McCain.”
Starting today, the fall 2008 “Top 15 In-School Search Index” of
the most active search terms will be available on Thinkronize,
Inc’s netTrekker
d.i. site http://ntdi.nettrekker.com/?page=top15search_fall2008.
The index offers insight into what our nation’s students are learning
about, care about and want to know more about.
For this fall quarter (August – October 2008), “Dogs” reigned
in the most searches, with “Games” coming in at #2—showcasing
that dogs are also kids’ best friend, and that games can be an
engaging learning tool. Our President Elect Barack Obama came in
at #3, “animals” at
#4 and “Halloween” at #5. The total number of unique search
terms for the fall quarter was 1,087,610.
“There is no doubt that search behavior on our consumer search
engines can offer an insightful window into the minds of our population,” said
Thinkronize CEO Randy Wilhelm. “Our in-school search index
offers a kid-centered, educationally-oriented view. And, for this quarter,
it is gratifying to see that kids were taking an interest in presidential
politics.”
The “Top 15 In-School Search Index” is tracked by Thinkronize,
a leader in the digital delivery of K-12 educational content and developers
